Food Allergy Test
Important: This is a results-only service; no consultation or personalised interpretation is included.
Food Allergy Test (IgE Panel)
This test measures IgE-mediated allergic responses to common foods (and environmental allergens if selected) using a laboratory-analysed finger-prick blood sample.
Blood testing is the recognised scientific method for identifying true allergies. Hair testing and other unvalidated techniques are not accurate or clinically reliable for detecting food allergies.
Your results will be sent directly to you for your own review.
What the test measures
- IgE antibodies to a panel of common food allergens
- IgE testing for environmental allergens
- A result indicates immune sensitisation, meaning your immune system recognises and reacts to that allergen
Important safety notes
A normal or negative IgE result does not rule out the possibility of a future allergic reaction or anaphylaxis.
Allergic responses can change over time, and it is still possible to react severely to a food that tests as “normal.”
Individuals with a history of severe allergies should continue carrying prescribed emergency medication and follow medical advice regardless of test results.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Testing during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not recommended, as the immune system naturally shifts during these periods. These changes can suppress or alter IgE activity, meaning reactions may not show up accurately, leading to false-negative results.
You must have recently eaten the foods you want to test
If you have been avoiding a food for some time, your immune system may stop producing IgE antibodies to it. To show up on the test, your body needs to have encountered that food recently, otherwise results may appear falsely normal.
When to consider this test
- Immediate-type allergic reactions (swelling, hives, itching, wheeze, digestive urgency)
- Unexplained symptoms after specific foods
- Need to identify potential allergens to avoid for safety
- Supporting discussions with your GP or allergy specialist
About test accuracy, limitations, and professional guidance
- This test provides laboratory-generated IgE results for information only.
- It cannot diagnose, treat, or cure allergies or medical conditions.
- Blood-based IgE testing is the recognised method for assessing sensitisation, but results must always be interpreted in the context of clinical history.
- Allergic reactions can develop even when IgE levels are low or normal.
- This is not an intolerance test, it is an allergy test. IgG “intolerance” testing is not included here, and IgE allergy testing is separate from lactose intolerance, coeliac disease, or enzyme-related reactions.
If you are concerned about symptoms, particularly those suggestive of allergy, intolerance, or anaphylaxis, you must consult your GP or allergy specialist.
Never delay medical attention based on test results alone.
