This Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) test is designed for people who are concerned about possible heavy metal toxicity and want objective data to help guide heavy metal detox decisions.

HTMA provides a longer-term picture of toxic metal exposure and mineral balance by analysing a small sample of hair. Unlike blood tests, which only show what is circulating at the time of testing, hair reflects mineral and heavy metal patterns laid down over several months, making it particularly useful for identifying chronic exposure.

The test measures toxic elements such as lead, mercury, aluminium, cadmium and arsenic, alongside essential minerals including magnesium, calcium, zinc, copper, sodium and potassium. These minerals are fundamental for nervous system function, energy production, hormone balance, immune health and detoxification pathways.

Heavy metals can disrupt normal biochemistry by displacing essential minerals, increasing oxidative stress and placing strain on the liver, gut and nervous system. Over time this may contribute to fatigue, brain fog, hormone imbalance, inflammatory symptoms, digestive issues and reduced resilience to stress.

Exposure can come from environmental pollution, old plumbing, dental materials, occupational sources, certain foods, or previous travel.

People often choose this test if they are curious about heavy metal toxicity, considering a heavy metal detox programme, or would like a broader picture of mineral status to support their health journey.

This is a non invasive, at home test. You simply collect a small hair sample and return it to the laboratory for analysis.

Important collection guidelines:

Hair must be taken from as close to the scalp as possible. Hair ends are not suitable, as the newest growth gives the most accurate reflection of recent exposure.

Hair must be at least 6 weeks away from being dyed, bleached or chemically treated before collection.

If you are bald or have very little head hair, pubic hair can be used instead, provided it is untreated and collected according to the instructions.

What you receive:

You will receive your laboratory results along with the lab’s own report explaining the measured minerals and toxic elements.

This is a results only service. No interpretation, recommendations or consultation are included. If you would like professional interpretation or personalised guidance, this can be arranged separately after you receive your results.

This test can be used on its own or alongside other assessments as part of a wider exploration into mineral balance, heavy metal toxicity and heavy metal detox support.
