DUTCH Cycle Mapping
DUTCH Cycle Mapping™
DUTCH Cycle Mapping™ is a dried urine test that tracks oestrogen and progesterone patterns across an entire menstrual cycle.
Instead of taking a single snapshot, this test maps hormone rises and falls throughout the follicular, ovulatory and luteal phases, providing a detailed picture of how your hormones behave over the month.
It measures estradiol (E2) and the progesterone metabolites α-pregnanediol and β-pregnanediol, allowing you to see whether ovulation has occurred, how strong progesterone output is and whether oestrogen peaks and troughs follow expected patterns.
The sample report shows how results are plotted as monthly curves, helping identify luteal defects, anovulatory cycles, weak progesterone response, or irregular oestrogen patterns that may contribute to symptoms such as PMS, mood shifts, fatigue, migraines, acne, spotting or infertility.
What this test helps you understand
- Whether and when ovulation is occurring
- The strength and timing of progesterone production (luteal phase sufficiency)
- Oestrogen behaviour across the cycle, including early rises, weak peaks or late surges
- Hormonal patterns that may contribute to PMS, PMDD, cycle-related fatigue, acne, breast tenderness, migraines, mood symptoms, difficulty conceiving, or perimenopausal changes
- Whether symptoms align with hormonal fluctuations or disruptions
Who this test is ideal for
Consider DUTCH Cycle Mapping™ if you have:
- Irregular cycles, unpredictable ovulation or cycles that vary month to month
- Infertility, recurrent miscarriage or suspected luteal phase defects
- PCOS, anovulatory cycles or hormonal symptoms that fluctuate throughout the month
- A menstrual cycle but no clear pattern or you suspect you are not ovulating
Who this test is not suitable for
- Postmenopausal individuals
- Those using hormonal birth control or HRT
- Anyone without a natural menstrual cycle
- In these cases, DUTCH Complete/Plus is more appropriate.
- Those who are currently using DHEA, progesterone, pregnenolone, or testosterone supplements without the ability to pause them for the required washout period — these will directly distort hormone levels.
- Those who cannot collect dried urine samples at the required times (e.g., shift work, caring responsibilities or unpredictable sleep patterns that prevent proper timing).
- Those who have severe kidney dysfunction — urine metabolite measurements may be inaccurate due to impaired filtration and creatinine correction.
Sample Type
Dried urine (multiple samples across one full cycle)
This allows accurate detection of hormone metabolites while also being simple to collect at home.
